* Ist­ván ist seit 1000/1001 König. Er hat die Struk­tur des christ­li­chen Staa­tes auf­ge­baut und ein­heit­lich gemacht. Ungarn ist aber viel älter, denn sein Vater, Géza hat schon als Fürst mit der Zen­tra­li­sie­rung begon­nen und die frü­hes­ten Ursprun­ge Ungarns sind auf Ist­váns Groß­va­ter Árpàd bis 896 zurück zu füh­ren.

The his­to­ri­cal and tri­lin­gu­al (hu, de, en) illus­tra­ted book with text „King Ist­ván I. of Hun­ga­ry“ offers not only young rea­ders a fasci­na­ting jour­ney into the past, but also cap­ti­va­tes adults with its detail­ed pre­sen­ta­ti­on.

On fif­ty-six pages, the aut­hor shows
how an enti­re era can be brought to life. Par­ti­cu­lar­ly impres­si­ve is the com­bi­na­ti­on of con­cise, sub­stan­ti­al texts and mas­terful­ly desi­gned illus­tra­ti­ons, which trace the sto­ry of Vajk’s rise to beco­me King Ist­ván I.
The rea­der lear­ns about István’s birth, his bap­tism and edu­ca­ti­on, his mar­ria­ge to a Bava­ri­an prin­cess, all the way to his coro­na­ti­on and the Chris­tia­niza­ti­on of Hun­ga­ry.

The text is kept con­cise,
becau­se the lavish illus­tra­ti­ons are inten­ded to sti­mu­la­te the ima­gi­na­ti­on, reflec­tion and crea­ti­vi­ty, ther­eby con­vey­ing a deep under­stan­ding of the his­to­ri­cal signi­fi­can­ce of this peri­od.
István’s wise poli­ci­es and his signi­fi­cant reforms, which had a las­ting influence on the Hun­ga­ri­an king­dom, the coun­try, its peo­p­le and edu­ca­ti­on, are dis­cus­sed just as much as his vene­ra­ti­on as a saint, which con­ti­nues to this day: August 20 is the sign of this.

Wit­hout reve­al­ing too much, it can be said:
This book is a small and true tre­asu­re tro­ve of epi­so­des, know­ledge and inspi­ra­ti­on, which is not only a sple­ndid addi­ti­on to the Hun­ga­ri­an under­stan­ding of its­elf for child­ren and young peo­p­le, but for the who­le fami­ly, and the­r­e­fo­re deser­ves a place on the books­helf.

Anyo­ne inte­res­ted in the histo­ry of Hun­ga­ry
will be fasci­na­ted by this infor­ma­ti­ve and at the same time moving his­to­ri­cal past, becau­se the text is based on han­ded-down facts.

* Ist­ván has been king sin­ce 1000/1001. He estab­lished and uni­fied the struc­tu­re of the Chris­ti­an sta­te. Hun­ga­ry its­elf, howe­ver, is much older, becau­se his father, Géza, had alre­a­dy begun the cen­tra­liza­ti­on as prin­ce, and the ear­liest ori­g­ins of Hun­ga­ry can be tra­ced back to István’s grand­fa­ther Árpád, as far back as 896.

2015 óta a sza­bad­abb Magyar­or­szá­gon élek, és itt talál­tam vala­mit, ami szá­mom­ra különö­sen fon­tos: a sza­bad­sá­got. Ezért nemc­sak ezen a napon sze­ret­nék szív­ből kös­zö­ne­tet monda­ni Magyar­or­szá­gnak.

Der 20. August erin­nert an Szent Ist­ván, den ers­ten König Ungarns, und an die Ent­ste­hung des christ­li­chen unga­ri­schen Staa­tes. 𝐅𝐮̈𝐫 𝐦𝐢𝐜𝐡 𝐢𝐬𝐭 𝐝𝐢𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐫 𝐓𝐚𝐠 𝐦𝐞𝐡𝐫 𝐚𝐥𝐬 𝐞𝐢𝐧 𝐡𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐬 𝐃𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐦. Er steht auch für die Geschich­te eines Lan­des, das vie­le Zei­ten und Herr­schaf­ten über­stan­den und sei­ne eige­ne Iden­ti­tät bewahrt hat.
Ungarn hat viel erlebt und Ungarn wird wei­ter­le­ben.

August 20 com­me­mo­ra­tes Saint Ist­ván, the first King of Hun­ga­ry, and the estab­lish­ment of the Chris­ti­an Hun­ga­ri­an sta­te. 𝐅𝐨𝐫 𝐦𝐞, 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐝𝐚𝐲 𝐢𝐬 𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐧 𝐚 𝐡𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐞. It also repres­ents the histo­ry of a coun­try that has sur­vi­ved many eras and rulers while pre­ser­ving its own iden­ti­ty.
