🇺🇸 The new music album (2025/26) by Mr. Rosa von Zehnle: „Hungary’s Freedom, My Freedom“ My musical legacy and, at the same time, my gratitude to the Hungarian people and the expression of my deep veneration for the victims of the communist reign of terror of 1919, of 1945 – 1989 and in particular of the year 1956. N_e_v_e_r___a_g_a_i_n_!

🇺🇸 In the autumn of 2025, my life in Hungary marked,
by the count of years, its tenth anniversary – in a land that has become my second home. At Whitsun 2026, I presented my new music album in English, Hungary’s Freedom, My Freedom, a musical tribute to the centuries-long struggle of the Hungarians for freedom and peace: spanning now 1,130 years.
My current music album
consists of thirteen songs – each in a calm and a rock version, thus twenty-six versions in total. It is released in three languages: in Hungarian on 23 October, in German on 9 November, both in 2025, and in English at Whitsun 2026!
The thirteen titles draw upon defining events and the spirit of freedom in the 1,130-year-young history of Hungary.

The album is deliberately released in three languages so that the message of the Hungarian will for freedom and independence may be heard throughout the world: as a token of what it truly means to be free and independent, and that it is ALWAYS worth fighting for.
The songs tell of the
- of the „Seven Chieftains“, who came to Europe in the year 895,
- of the founder of the realm, Szent István (1000),
- of Transylvania (1075) and the Székelys,
- of my present home village of Újudvar (1193),
- of the Ottoman occupation (1526),
- of armed uprisings (e.g. 1699) against foreign rule (or 1790),
- of the Revolution of 1848,
- of the Red Terror of the Lenin Boys in 1919,
- of the People’s Uprising of 1956,
- through to the Ukrainian peace efforts (2024), honoured in the „Peace Tribute to Viktor Orbán“.
- Two timeless bonus tracks – Hungary’s Christmas and New Year’s Greetings – bring this deeply emotional album, one that raises goosebumps time and again, to its close.
Each song tells of courage,
resistance, the will to be free, and the hope for peace that has never faded. The Hungarian bagpipe (magyar duda), now almost forgotten, reappears in many of my songs: It was once the symbol of that freedom which was a thorn in the side of the communists, and whose sound I sorely miss in today’s Hungarian music.
An album that conveys the history of Hungary in a completely new way: These are not merely songs; the length and depth of most tracks bear witness to Hungarian history in its detail and with profound personal engagement.
A work that moves listeners not only musically, but opens their eyes to history.
Thus, for once, Hungary’s history is not dry and didactic, but comes alive, is vivid, and can be truly felt.
A special thank-you goes to
Mária from Pécs, who translated my lyrics — which I always write in German first — into perfect Hungarian, thereby making the music even more authentic.
Why this music album?
I have been living in a freer Hungary for ten years, and never in my life have I been as free as I am here. I had to endure communism for 29 years in the GDR, so I know what I’m writing and talking about!
I have left the communists behind me, with everything that was possible:
- 18 months in prison for attempting to flee the country,
- including 9 months in a STASI prison (including pretrial detention in Chemnitz pending deportation, followed by a return to the GDR),
- 72 days in solitary confinement,
- 18 days and nights in a dark basement,
- plus time in the STASI prison hospital due to a hunger strike …
- later, a ban on professional employment,
- forced expropriation of my home (which became “public property”), no compensation to this day,
- and much more).
Even back then in the GDR, I had the courage to stand up against evil (writing political poems in prison) and to use my head.
My first CD, „Desire against expectations: GDR 1984/1“, sings about this.
I wrote these (my) poems in 1984 while in a GDR prison.
2024: Forty years later, I rediscovered them and set them to music.
Tracks 1 – 13 are calmer versions, while the same titles in tracks 14 – 26 are full of musical power (Gothic, hard rock, etc.):

After the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989, when the GDR was “absorbed” by the FRG,
I had to keep fighting for my freedom there as well. Everything was in upheaval; nothing was certain, and nothing was truly free.
It is only in the last ten years, here in Hungary, that I have found what I have been searching for my entire life: freedom of thought, action, and choice. Freedom that means living in peace, enjoying life, and shaping it as one wishes. After more than 50 years of struggle, oppression, and uncertainty, I have found a home in Hungary: a country that gives me the opportunity to claim my freedom.
That is why this album is not only a tribute to Hungary’s history, but also a personal thank you to all Hungarians. A thank you to a country that has shown me what true freedom means. With every song and every note, I want to celebrate this freedom — and share it with those who cherish it as much as I do.
Köszönöm, Hungary!
My new 2025 album, “Hungary’s Freedom, My Freedom,”
is far more than just a musical work to me: it is my personal commitment to a country where I found the freedom I had always sought. I did not find it in the GDR, nor did I find it in the FRG. I found it here in a freer Hungary.
This album is an expression of my deep connection to the Hungarian people and their unbroken longing for independence, faith, dignity, and peace.
Every note carries gratitude, and every melody speaks of courage and hope. Thus, music here becomes a testament to my inner and outer freedom and, ultimately, a living monument to Hungary’s enduring spirit of freedom.
Thank you, Hungary!
